Two teams played in the weekly Canoe Polo league, held at Lake Roto Kohatu on Wednesday afternoons in Term 1 & 4.
2019 has been a development year for Canoe Polo at Burnside HS. We have welcomed a number of new players to the sport, including a team of Y9 girls who went on to win a silver medal in the South Island Canoe Polo Champs, held in Oamaru in August.
Our players have progressed their Canoe Polo ability through competing in the weekly schools' league and through training in the Christ College pool in the lead up to the South Island Champs. We are very thankful for our two fantastic coaches, Josh Duncan and Matt Patient. Both coaches are past Burnside High School students and are still very much involved in Canoe Polo. This year Matt was part of the U21 New Zealand Paddle Black team who recently became World Champions after a win in Ireland.
For 2020 we hope to build numbers up and do even better at the South Island Secondary School Champs in Oamaru.
We are also very thankful for the ongoing help and support from our new manager Miss Holland.
