Music Department News from Term 4

Charlotte Ensor —

A wonderful end-of-year with final showcases and awards

The final term of the year saw our ensembles and performers celebrating the successes and progress achieved in 2019.

This started with the first ever Music Awards Night in the Aurora Centre; an opportunity to congratulate the individual students for their contributions and to celebrate their accomplishments. With performances from several ensembles and an inspiring presentation from ex-Burnside music teacher and now internationally recognised King's Singer - Chris Bruerton - the evening was an enjoyable presentation of all the musical talent that Burnside has.

From this beginning, the term then progressed with finales for most of our ensembles and performers. All of the vocal ensembles at the Choral Extravaganza, the Big Band at Christchurch's Big Band Festival in the sunny CBD, the Junior Strings going on tour around several retirement homes, the SMP students having their Gala performances, and finally the Junior Ensembles combining with Westburn's music programme to present their Junior Showcase at the Aurora Centre. Each of these were wonderful ways for the students to complete their 2019 musical endeavours.

Many thanks to the music staff, parents and students for the hard work they've put in throughout 2019. Best wishes to the school leavers whom we hope to see carrying music into their futures.

Happy Holidays!
