If we can’t go to Paris, we will go to Akaroa !

In April this year we continued our French Maori Immersion Camp to Akaroa . The Year 12/13 French and Maori classes enjoyed two days of language, history and culture staying at Onuku Marae. We were welcomed with a moving powhiri and settled into our home for two days.

Activities included sharing projects the students had prepared on the French and Maori settlers in the region, a walk up Onawe Peninsula and learning about the history of Te Rauparaha, a visit to the local museum, an amazing race around Akaroa, and a cuisine competition judged by the teachers.

Much aroha and un grand merci to Tania Gilchrist. Matt Crosby and our lovely students who helped create an unforgettable experience at yet another of our bi-cultural immersion camps.

Immersion Day at UC:

Years 11,12 and13 French students attended French Immersion Day at University of Canterbury on June 9. They joined many other Canterbury schools and enjoyed a day of French activities and classes to help prepare them for NCEA examinations.

Etienne Concert :

Eighty of our year 9 and 10 French students enjoyed a concert at Boys High School by Etienne - a French Canadian rapper who performed two concerts in Christchurch as part of his Australasian tour in August this year. The students realised that French verbs could be fun and memorable if learnt as a rap! Our students joined with students from Christchurch Boys High, Lincoln High. Christchurch Girls High and Middleton Grange for an action packed hour of song and dance from Etienne who promised he would return next year. Merci Etienne.
