Magna Voce

B. Tashakkor —

Magna Voce is Burnside High School’s mixed un-auditioned choir, consisting of over 30 singers of various ages and expertise and directed by Miss Charlotte Ensor.

Over the years, we have learnt various songs from all across choral music, including choral art, New Zealand compositions, and even a student-arranged piece.

Throughout this year, Magna Voce has attained the pleasure of being able to represent the school at a national level, through this year's Big Sing. During the Big Sing Regionals, We were able to score high enough to be selected to perform at the Big Sing Cadenza in Timaru. At Cadenza we achieved a Tui award, given to Choirs who scored over 85% Overall! Magna has also had opportunities to perform locally multiple times, performing in Burnside’s Aurora Centre as well as various other local venues.

As a student, Magna has been my favourite experience during my time at Burnside. When I first started singing, I never thought I would at some point get the chance to be a part of something so beautiful. Our time in Timaru is a weekend I will never forget, getting to spend time with so many individuals with colourful personalities, and making lifelong friendships. Looking back to before I began, I was timid and afraid of performance, never really expressing myself properly through my singing. However, through my time in Magna, and with the help of my wonderful peers, I was able to take on a role as a section leader. I am more than thankful for the family that Magna has been to me, and for the enjoyment it has given me during my time at Burnside. I hope to see it flourish in the years to come!

We’d like to extend a final thanks to all of the peers, staff, whānau, and various other individuals, who have supported and grown Magna Voce into what it is today, we are all beyond thankful for your support!
