For the third year in a row, the BHS Robotics team "4067X" won a place at the Vex Robotics Nationals Competition!

This was an outstanding achievement for a South Island team as the competition in the North Island is fierce with many of their opponents regularly competing in the World Championship. In 2020 they were runner-up to Christchurch Boys High. Last year they won the prestigious Design Award. This year they won the Saturday Division at the Vex Robotics Nationals in Auckland. The event was split into two due the Covid restrictions.

Even with all the issues around Covid, the Burnside Robotics Club was fortunate to receive funding from the Tait Foundation to purchase a Robotics field in late 2021. "This was an incredible change for us as it allowed us to practise on school grounds, eliminating the need for us to travel to another school that had a field. We believe this was the main reason why we were able to perform so highly at this year's Vex National competition" - Teamleader  Alex Cutforth". Also, due to Covid, visits between schools were restricted.

As a result of their win, Burnside High School has qualified for the Vex Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas in the USA from 5 to 7 May. This competition is the biggest robotics competition in the world with four divisions and over 24000 students competing. This is an amazing opportunity with exposure to the biggest names in STEM such as NASA, Autodesk, Google and Northrop Grumman Foundation.

Now that Burnside High School has qualified, the next challenge is to find a way to get the team to Dallas.
