Symphonic Band
The Burnside High School Symphonic Band is made up of students of all year levels and playing abilities.
This year the ensemble has never sounded better and that is thanks to all of the 70 individuals that play brass, percussion and wind instruments that dedicate their Tuesday lunch times to the ensemble.
The band was busy at the start of the year with Living Springs camp to help us get to know our pieces, the people in Symphonic Band and to advance our musician skills. It was a great camp which everyone loved, I know all the year 13’s are going to miss the hot chocolate machine!
This year in September we had our big competition, the Christchurch Wind Festival. We played such pieces as Fanfare for the Common Man and a James Bond medley. We walked away proud from the competition with a Gold Award, Best Percussion Section, Oboe Section, Bass Section, Trumpet Section and Trombone Section which I am proud to have been a part of as leader of the section.
As student leader and conductor of the Symphonic Band for 2017. I conducted ‘Little Suite for Band’. It was very rewarding to see how far the band had come from the start of the year to the competition. I will miss the Symphonic Band and I wish them all the best for next year!
