Burnside HS 5 May (other match reports)
U14s, U15s & U16s
U16 5-29 loss to Christchurch BHS U16A
The u16s lost 29-5 to a highly rated CBHS u16A team in an encounter where the final score was not a true reflection of a tightly contested game at Burnside Park. The boys in green played with a lot of heart, displaying a big physical presence at the rucks and putting in some big tackles, together with a line speed that put Boys' High under immense pressure. The spectacular try scored by Shin Kato was a well constructed multi-phased gem that showed the potential that the Burnside HS team has. It was a very good team effort by the Burnside team but the loose trio of Kato, Yahav Benaia and Sam Thompson deserve a special mention for their work at the breakdown, which laid a good foundation for the good performance.

U15 0-22 loss vs St. Thomas's College U15s & 12-0 win vs SBHS U15B
The u15s played two half-games at Sheldon Park against two teams that presented contrasting approaches. St Thomas had a big and physical team that out-muscled our boys but also ran the ball from all areas of the field resulting in a 22-0 scoreline. The Burnside boys put up a good fight and spirited defence to deny the hard running opposition backline numerous try-scoring opportunities. The Shirley Boys' High u15B played a more structured, direct game, which the Burnside boys defended with relative ease. Our boys showed glimpses of class with some of their plays and this will be a team to watch as the season progresses.

U14 10-51 loss to Shirley BHS U14Bs
It was a good hit out for the first grading game, and our under 14 team showed great heart, fighting right to the finish in a tough match against Shirley Boys High u14B. The opposition had two gigantic players that did all the damage, and had they not been playing, the teams might have been a bit more evenly matched. That said, there is a lot to work on moving forward, but our boys can hold their heads high knowing that they gave it their all. Alfie Trafford, the captain for the day, lead from the front and was our player of the day. Christian Williams-Schwalger showed great courage up front, tackling a boy twice his size, resulting in him being voted the tackler of the day.
