It has been a busy and interesting year for the Burnside Environment Group.

Jon Land —

We have extended our membership to include all year groups and this year had 156 active members.

Work has been focused on new plantings along the Hewling stream and more recently to a make-over of the high ropes area in response to a request from the PE Department. Additional planting around the school’s perimeter and in existing borders has meant that nearly 500 native trees and shrubs have been planted on the grounds this year. It is a pleasure to see the how previous year’s plantings have been enhanced by our lovely wet winter. The Gallipolli Tree, the new fern gardens in the music quad and around E block and the planter boxes around B Block are all looking beautiful and are a testament to the work of students over the past seven years. Junior students who complete ten hours work are now eligible for the Burnside Leaders Environment badge and we have a growing number of committed helpers in the junior school. Students from all year groups will be welcome to join the group in 2018 and we look forward to continued support from amongst others Trees for Canterbury and the Burnside PTA.
