Badminton
2020 was another great year for the Burnside High School Badminton programme.
Badminton proved once again to be hugely popular, with Mr Paull running a Social competition alongside the more competitive Wednesday competition.
Our teams in the Wednesday Canterbury Secondary Schools competition had a fantastic season with more than one team winning their grade:
- Boys Premier A team won the Boys Premier grade;
- Boys A team won the Boys A grade;
- Boys B team won the Boys B grade;
- Girls Premier A team were 2nd place-getters, lost by 1 point on countback to St Andrew's College. This was an epic encounter!
Unfortunately not all of the scheduled tournaments were able to go ahead because of the Covid restrictions that were in place at the time but the teams who did get to compete certainly made the most of the opportunity to play with some outstanding results. The Premier Boys A and Premier Girls A both won the Canterbury Secondary Schools Senior Badminton Team Championships.
The Boys Junior Doubles Team of Justin Loh and Baxter Lin, also won the Canterbury Secondary Schools Junior Boys Doubles Championship. Baxter also won the Junior Singles title beating fellow teammate Justin.
The Badminton success didn’t stop there with the Junior Boys team winning the South Island Secondary Schools Junior Badminton team and the Junior Girls were runner ups in the same tournament.
