Triathlon
A small group of Burnside High students tested their wits in the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Triathlon at Scarborough Beach, Sumner, on Friday 8th March.
The athletes had to complete three disciplines in quick succession. The swim leg, perhaps the hardest, was a 350m ocean swim off Scarborough Beach, this was followed by a fast-paced 9km bike ride around the streets of Sumner, finishing with a 3km run along the promenade.
It was great to see a Burnside team competing, as well as individuals this year. Hopefully next year a few more athletes will take up the challenge, either individually or with some friends.
Special thanks must go to the Burnside supporters, particularly the Year 11 surfers (on a PE trip) who took the time to cheer the runners on.
Congratulations to competitors who achieved the following commendable results:
Sue Petrie - 9th - Girls U14 Individual race
Thomas James - 5th - Boys U19 Individual race
Taylah Peek, Mya Te Aho and Jorja Dann - 8th - Girls U16 Team race
