Letter to the Burnside Community

Ms A Griffin —

It has been a busy week back at school. We are very pleased to see our students return. Each day we have had a very high attendance and the students are appreciative of a return to teaching in classes.

Covid-19

We are really encouraged by the reduction in Covid-19 cases and I know many of you will be reassured by this. The graph that you see above is taken from the latest Ministry of Health update.

We have a number of health measures in place and want to thank you for reinforcing these. It is particularly important that you drop off or pick up your child away from the main school site. This is helping to manage a steady flow of people at the start and end of the day. Please be assured that we are following Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health guidelines to help keep our school community safe. We have put together a document of frequently asked questions, which you can find here. These cover advice about changes to NCEA, travel and shows you our Health and safety plan. Some of the links will be internal documents and not accessible.

On-Line Safety

Next week we are fortunate to have the services of John Parsons, the cyber safety and Risk Assessment Consultant. John provides specialist advice on the safe and ethical use of digital communication technology. His website is https://www.citizen21.co.nz/

His messages give important timely reminders about how to stay safe in the digital world.

John will be taking a virtual session with junior students and senior students on Thursday 28th May. He will be talking to staff and we have a parent session booked for 6pm.

The Link to register to attend the virtual session for parents on Thursday is:

I hope that you can join us to share in these important messages.

Thank you for all of your support in what is a ‘new normal’ for us all.

Andrea Griffin
