Rowing

Marion Hardwick —

In the 2016/17 rowing season, Burnside had a rowing squad which consisted of 15 members. Even though this was a small squad, we were all close with each other which made the environment to train and race in enjoyable.

Throughout the 2016/2017 season we competed at Canterbury and South Island regattas and made a lot of A finals. Because of this success, in March we sent a squad of 12 rowers to the famous Lake Karapiro in Cambridge for the NZ Secondary Schools' Championships (Maadi Cup).

We spent a week competing through heats, repecharges, semis and made our way to a few finals. Our best result came from our two novice boys, Sam Brown and Devon Else, who won first place in the B final of the novice U18 men's double sculls.

My personal highlight of this year would be spending time with such an amazing group of people and having the pleasure of travelling to regattas with them.

I would like to say a huge thank you to our dedicated coach, Sarah Lindley, for taking on the challenge of coaching our squad and for her time and effort - none of this would have been possible without her.
