Top Scholar meets top leader

Fiona Dwyer —

Sarah Burton was awarded NZQA Top Scholar in Visual Arts Sculpture for 2018 and her success was recognised in the NZQA Top Scholar awards held in Wellington recently.

The award ceremony was held at Parliament and attended by the highest achieving students from around the country, supported by their families, teachers and principals. The awards were presented by education minister Chris Hipkins, followed by an inspirational speech by Prime Minister Jacinda Adern. Adern recognised the students for their outstanding efforts, talents and contributions. She reflected that her high school years were the most challenging time in her life and encouraged students to find success by being their own biggest supporters and following what brings them joy.

In addition to being awarded Top Scholar in Sculpture in 2018 Sarah was also awarded scholarships in English and History. She is currently living in Wellington and studying towards a double degree in Law, Political Science and French at Victoria University. She is a talented student who is very deserving of this recognition.
