Exam Prohibited Items

Darlene Sutton —

In an exam room, certain items are not allowed unless they are sealed in an emergency evacuation pack. Understanding these restrictions is crucial to ensure fair and unbiased assessments.

Here are the items that students cannot bring into the exam room:

1. Blank or refill paper: Students cannot bring extra paper as it may be used to gain an unfair advantage.

2. Correcting fluid: The use of correcting fluid is not permitted to prevent altering answers after the examination has started.

3. Books: External sources, including books, are not allowed to maintain the integrity of the examination process.

4. Written or electronic notes: Students should rely solely on their knowledge during the exam and not refer to any notes.

5. Mobile phones or pagers: These devices can store or communicate information and are not allowed during exams.

6. Dictionaries: English, foreign language, or te reo Māori dictionaries or translators are prohibited as they provide unfair assistance.

7. Watches: Regardless of whether they are digital or analog, watches are not allowed in the exam room.

8. Electronic devices: Any electronic device with the capability to store, communicate, or retrieve information, except approved calculators, is not permitted. Laptops will only be permitted for Digital exams.

9. Headphones and earbuds: These items can distract students from focusing on the exam and are thus prohibited.

It is important to note that if a supervisor sees any of these items, they will confiscate them, which may jeopardise the student's exam results.

Understanding and adhering to these guidelines will ensure a fair and equitable environment for all students during their examinations.
