Parents, Parent volunteers, grand parents, - supporting your children
All the Players for participating and representing our teams. A special mention of Riccarton and Rangi players for being a part of us and adding to our numbers and you had to make an extra effort to get across after school. But well done to all the players - ultimately our rugby is about you the players. I am satisfied with the progress we have made. We have played every single fixture and there are a few teams out there, that of late have been defaulting because of a lack of numbers but we have maintained and we have you players to thank for that – you make up the numbers. All the teams are essentially in line to be in the playoffs and collectively we have won more games than we have lost - and that is an indication of a degree of success but ultimately an indication of the players efforts. Good luck for the remaining few games. I hope to see all of you playing next season. Not all of you will be getting awards but please know that your contribution is appreciated and well done for what you have collectively achieved.
So I would like to ask everyone to give the players a round of applause.

Warwick Taylor Award
The next award is a new award and is being awarded tonight for the first time. Because the criteria for the award are essentially what Warwick Taylor embodies, and given his character, as well as what he achieved in his playing career because of his consummate work ethic among other noteworthy attributes, the Headmaster suggested we name this award, the Warwick Taylor Trophy. – Ask Warwick to come up.
The trophy is awarded to the player that is considered to have had the most significant all round contribution to Burnside High School rugby, from the off-season and maintaining right through the season. It goes to the player that has had the most positive participation and has set the absolute best example to his peers. This player has upheld the school values by always being respectful, having immense pride and relentlessly striving for excellence. This player has also upheld the World Rugby Core Values: which we said should be inherent in everything we do – those of integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline. This player was at almost every off-season strength and conditioning session since we started in Term 4 last year, and has continued to do so up until now. This player’s academic attendance has been immaculate, as has been the rugby attendance. This player is regularly seen on the side of the field supporting the other Burnside High School teams, before heading off to their own game. This player has epitomised commitment, diligence and has displayed an admirable work ethic. The winner of this award gets a trophy and $100 voucher sponsored by Lonestar Papanui.
It gives me the greatest pleasure to announce the inaugural Winner of the Warwick Taylor Trophy – Harrison Mitchell
Ask Mark Ealey, Tom and Hille
Mark has been at Burnside High School for the last 5 years. In that period he has run the IRP, worked as the Rugby Administartor, Coached the 2nd XV as well as the 1st XV. As Coaches and teachers we aim to make a difference. From observing Mark go about his business, and purely for what he did for me in the role he played to get me and my family here, I learnt that I was not doing enough with regards to making a difference. Mark’s greatest gift is to catalyse life changing opportunities for others. In 2008 Mark invited a South African boy from an impoverished background to be part of the IRP. This kid literally lived in a two bedroomed shack but his life was transformed when Mark gave him the opportunity to come to Christchurch. He is a very successful young man today because of the part Mark played in his life. There are others that can vouch for how Mark fights for you when he is in your corner. We are going to miss you. Your departure will leave a big hole in our rugby as well as in our hearts. Thank you for everything you have done for our Rugby and we wish you and Miyuki all the best for the future.
