Burnside High School —

Burnside High School Badminton has celebrated many successes in the 2021 season.

The two Premier Boys' Teams and one Premier Girls' Team represented the school well in the School Sport Canterbury weekly competition during Terms 2 and 3, with our Girls A team placing 3rd and our Boys' teams placing 1st and 2nd, all in the Premier grade.

In total, we had five Girls' teams and six Boys' teams entered into the Wednesday competition this year with all of them enjoying the games and playing well.

In June, our Senior Girls and Senior Boys teams travelled to Dunedin for the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships. This was a great experience for our Year 13s who got to play in one final competition (Nationals were cancelled due to Covid) but also for our Year 11 and Year 12 students who performed well. There were some challenging games - many three-set, nail-biting games - and once again our players represented the school admirably. At the end of a busy weekend both our teams came second, an outstanding achievement given the calibre of talent at the competition.

We farewell several players who end their journey at Burnside High School but we now look forward to the 2022 season. Special thanks to Mr Paull and Mr Ji for their help and supervision at home and away games, and at tournaments.
