Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is the non-auditioned band including players at any year and any skill level. This year the band included around 88 members with Mr Petch directing.
The band has had weekly rehearsals during lunch breaks on Tuesdays in the Green Room.
After years of COVID, we were able to lose the limits that prevented us from rehearsing and performing. The first performance was at the school music camp at living springs, along with Big Band and Orchestra. Our band performed Above the clouds, Seal Lullaby and Arabian Dances. The following performance was in early September at our school’s very own Aurora center. We also included Elements Petite symphony composed by Brian Balmages into our performance. The performance featured two student conductors, Lucas de Groot-Tsuji and myself, Monika Duncan. We were able to take away a silver award. After the performance we worked a workshop with the adjudicator, Vincent Hardaker. The Aurora Festival was our last performance as a whole group.
As a trumpet player in the band from year 9, I have always felt excited to come to rehearsals and I enjoyed every performance we had. Symphonic Band was the first ensemble I joined with my trumpet, instead of cornet. Symphonic Band has led me to a special memory I will forever keep, as the 5 years of being in the band has taught me many skills. I would like to thank Lucas de Groot-Tsuji who was a great person to work with as the student conductors, all the members of Symphonic band who have been great players to play music with, and Mr Petch. On behalf of the Symphonic band I would like to extend my most gratitude to Mr Petch for all the hard work and organisation he has put through for the band. Mr Petch has treated all of us as proper musicians no matter what level, and has proudly given us opportunities to perform as performers. Mr Petch has given important influence on so many players of the ensemble this year.
