PTA Newsletter April 2019

PTA contact —

The PTA is looking for someone to take over the Chair position.

Melanie Russell has resigned as Chair  of the PTA and now we are looking for someone to take over this role.

The role involves working with a wonderful committee to be a link between the school, parents and whanau;  and to support multiple school groups and activities through distribution of donation funds. In addition to this, the PTA manage the Uniform Store that is located at the school, including sale of second hand uniforms.

The PTA donations received by the school are allocated back to school activities via two funding rounds held each year. These applications are prepared by members of the school faculty on behalf of the students.  As a group, the PTA review these applications and allocate the funds in order to promote and support school activities and groups.

In addition to the fundingallocation, the PTA hold several meetings throughout the year where students and their whanau, and  teachers are invited to hear updates from the PTA.

The PTA also organises guest speakers. In the past we have arranged for speakers to talk about:

  • University life
  • Dealing with stress and exams
  • Health and sexuality education
  •  Tools for recognising and dealing with anxiety.

What is the Chair’s role in this?

· Facilitate the PTA meetings (approx 6 per year).

· Be approachable and welcoming to parents attending meetings.

· Liaise  with the school regarding the Funding Rounds, setting dates and recommending payments.

· Attend school graduations.

· Speak at the Year 8 welcome evening.

· Organise speakers for the PTA meetings.

· Generally support and encourage the other committee members.

The role requires respect, thoughtfulness, humility, empathy and a sense of humour.

If you are interested or have any questions about the role, please do not hesitate to contact us at  pta.burnside@gmail.com

Burnside High School Library Parent Volunteers

We are looking for a few parents who may be able to help us on a regular voluntary basis in the Library.

We operate a two person roster on alternate weeks running for the school academic year.

We find that two hours (sometimes less) starting between 8.30 a.m. – 9 a.m. works well and enables Library staff to concentrate on other core work.

The work involves shelving daily returns and checking for accuracy in the various sequences in fiction & non-fiction.

There is sometimes clerical filing to be done and always general tidying of the library areas and collections.

Attention to detail, care and pride in your work is really important.

The Library staff enjoy getting to know our helpers and we hope you too will enjoy working in the relaxed and friendly environment.

We are happy to offer you the chance to borrow books from the extensive library collection.

You will be part of a two person team for a vacancy on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Full training will be given.

If you feel you would like to join us and commit to the end of Term 4 please contact the Library with details of the day/s which suit at  library@burnside.school.nz or phone us 358 8383 ext.869

We would love to hear from you….
