Lawn Bowls

Burnside High School —

At the beginning of Term 1, we were shown all aspects of Bowls, such as how to hold the bowl, how to deliver the bowl and the basic rules of the game.

As we got more familiar with the sport, we began to play fun games, allowing us to play people from all schools and ages. We had a roll-up/practice every Wednesday from 3:15-4:15pm at the Bowls Canterbury Green in Fendalton.

Practices and tournaments are held in Term 1 and 4, since Lawn Bowls is a summer sport. At the end of Term 1, there is a Singles tournament held for high school students (Individual 1 vs 1), and in Term 4 there is a Pairs tournament held for high school students (Partners 2 vs 2). The tournaments are not compulsory to enter, which means you can come to the practices for fun on Wednesdays and decide where you would like to go from there. Bowls are supplied for free and it's well worth it for the social interaction and chill vibes.

The current Women's World's best bowler, Tayla Bruce, started off in her high school years (14 years of age), going on to win all sorts of impressive achievements and titles!
