Rowing Squad 2017-2018

Marion Hardwick and Sam Brown —

Rowing is a fun, enjoyable and challenging sport.

This year Burnside had a rowing squad which consisted of 19 members, 12 boys and 7 girls. Even though this was a small squad, we were all so close with each other which made the environment to train and race in enjoyable.

Throughout the 2017-2018 season we competed at Canterbury and South Island regattas and made a lot of finals. Because of this success, in March we sent a squad of 16 rowers to the famous Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel for the New Zealand Secondary School Championships (Maadi Cup). We spent a week competing through heats, repechages, semis and made our way to the finals with the boys making the Novice 8 A Final.

Our personal highlight of this year would be spending time with such an amazing group of people and having the pleasure of travelling to regattas with them.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our dedicated head coach Sarah Lindley for taking on the challenge of coaching our squad and for her time and effort, none of this would have been possible without her. Also to our assistant coach Fergus Vickers for helping Sarah during the season.
