Andrea Griffin —

The start of my first Term at Burnside High School has been exciting and a little hectic. I already feel very proud to be part of the team that delivers its vision of 'personal excellence and care for others.'

My start here at Burnside began with a very welcoming powhiri.  I was privileged to be 'handed over' by my colleagues from Ashburton College and many friends.  It was a reminder of the many connections that influence you as you move through your life and career.

Just as people have influenced me, it is hugely apparent that the staff here are able to influence and guide our students in a very positive way.

In the eight weeks that I have been here, I have truly felt that Burnside lives its vision.  I have been involved in reviewing Teaching and Learning, strategic planning and have been immersed in the successes of the school. Our students are incredibly talented, be it debating, music, maths, sports, Art, Drama, academic successes or support for each other.  There are abundant opportunities for students to develop their 'personal excellence'.

Our new entrants arrived last week and I felt excited for their journey and the experience that they will be getting here.

I look forward to working with you all in the coming years.
