The recipient of our Senior Girls' Volleyball Scholarship in mid 2016 was Marlene Jahn, a national representative from Austria. She came through an educational agent in Germany that Burnside High has been dealing with for many years. 

Marlene accepted the attractive scholarship with the 2017 New Zealand Secondary School Championships in mind.  She trained with the Senior Girls for several months, learning the plays and the culture of the team before heading to Palmerston North in April of this year.  Marlene brought some grit and aggression to the team practices and games.  The team finished first in Canterbury and Regional competitions.  They also achieved third place nationally.
