Madison Garrett raced for New Zealand at the Asia Pacific Championships, held at Lake Karapiro from 10-12 May. Next year the event will be in Japan.

To get into the New Zealand team you need to compete at the NZ Nationals, which are held in February of each year. From the results at Nationals, eight girls and eight boys from each age group are selected for New Zealand teams (U16, U18 and U21). They then go to Lake Karapiro and trial for selection for K2 (2 people) and K4 (4 people) team boats. You also get to race in K1 if you placed in the Top 3 at Nationals. Madison raced in the following categories:

 K1 U16 200m – Bronze

 K2 U16 200m – Bronze

 K2 U16 500m – 4th

 K4 U16 200m – Gold

 K4 U16 500m – Gold
