Mr C Rosengrave —

This year has been full of excitement - great students, fun events, lots of learning, and all mixed in with the occasional drama! Please look below for photos and video that help summarise the year.

It has been a very busy year this year.  We have had more than 200 students pass through our office doors.  They have come from Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Scotland, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.  Our largest number of enrolments came from China, followed by Korea and Japan.

Two of our graduating Y13 students (Carol Liang and Dylan Xue)  were awarded the University of Canterbury's First Year Scholarship.  Both intend to study engineering next year at UC.

In addition to study, two of our students decided to learn how to scuba dive.  Both Dylan Xue and William Wu gained their PADI Open Water Diving certificate.

The International Ski and Boarding Club was very popular this year with weekly mid-week trips up to Mount Hutt.  Most days were fantastic, some days provided some good, fresh powder, and one day provided the opportunity to travel back to Christchurch in a chopper.  Thanks go out to the Westpac Trust Emergency helicopter service and their team for picking up one of our students who exceeded their own ability and came crashing to the ground.

We had some great additions to the music programme this year with Josefina Eggers and Charlotte Hoehn coming from Germany to play in the orchestra. Both girls will stay until July 2019.  We trust they will have a great time next year too.

Outdoor Pursuits (ODP) was a popular subject choice among our European students.  Those here in Term One were able to experience something pretty special.  The final two days of the white-water kayaking unit involves paddling down the Hurunui River.  It is a rather remote destination that your average person will never reach.

We trust our students used the year to improve themselves, to learn new things and make new friends.  We enjoyed their company (and the helicopter ride too).
