The Burnside High School Concert Band is an un-auditioned group of around 70 wind, brass, and percussionists from all year levels.

They have had an extremely successful year, winning “Best Concert Band” at the Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival, a gold award at the Christchurch Concert Band Festival alongside four section awards for “Best Percussion Section”, “Best Clarinet Section”, “Best Low Brass Section”, and “Best Oboe Section”.

The band came together for the first time at the annual Living Springs camp in March before continuing to work hard throughout the year, despite all the interruptions with construction around M block and the Aurora Centre.

August was a busy month for Concert Band which consisted of them travelling to Wellington with the Orchestra for WEBO (Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival) for three days and then a week and a half later, competing at the Christchurch Concert Band Festival.

I have been a member of Concert Band for 4 years now and it has been a pleasure to work with the group as the student conductor this year. I wish them all the best for the years to come.
