Cricket - Girls

Mr Green —

Burnside High's Girls Cricket team played in the annual regional tournament in late October this year - The Gillette Venus Cup.

The tournament is used to select the top team in Canterbury to go to Nationals later on in the year. This year, with limited preparation, the team did very well. Led by captain Ellena Firth, the team put in solid performances over the course of the two days, with all players getting the opportunity to bowl and bat. The performance against Christchurch Girl’s, in particular, was impressive. The girls batted for the full 20 overs, which was a great achievement against a very strong team. A strong characteristic of the team was the support they showed for each other. Thanks to parent, Nigel Stagg, for his help over the two days. The team is looking forward to next year's tournament in March.
