Ice Hockey

Burnside High School —

Burnside Ice Hockey had a season filled with heaps of fun and lots of effort put into our games.

Lots of close games enabled us to finish 4th overall in the Christchurch Ice Hockey High Schools’ League. The team this year had Alyssa Murphy as Captain, and Kyle Swift and Sophie Jefferies as Assistant Captains.

We had lots of new players this year, with special mentions to Jaya Pavlov and Kimberley Sutton, who had never played Ice Hockey before. They did amazingly throughout the season making big improvements and gaining more confidence on the ice. Our two other rookies on the team were Rylan Underwood and Peter Zhang, who fitted right into the team and were great new assets to have.

This year we say goodbye to another round of Year 13 players who will be sadly missed - a huge shout-out to Kyle Swift, Alyssa Murphy, Jaedyn Ellenbroek and Jasmin Kamminga.

The 2021 representative season saw four players from Burnside selected for the Canterbury U18 team; Kyle Swift, Jaedyn Ellenbroek, Caleb Forsythe and Alyssa Murphy travelled to Dunedin twice playing against Dunedin and Queenstown, winning half their games.

The end of season awards this year went to the following recipients:

Most Valuable Player: Kyle Swift

Most Improved Player: Kimberley Sutton

Captain’s award: Rylan Underwood

Van Slooten Iceberg: Sophie Jefferies

A big thanks to Nathan van Slooten who coached our team for the second year in a row - we all really appreciate your time, effort and hype you brought to each game!
