Year 12 Tourism - Hanmer

Donna Lee —

Exploring the diverse components of the tourism industry; students gained insight into tourism businesses, work roles and the array of attractions and activities on offer within the Hanmer region.

On Monday 3rd July,  the Year 12 Tourism students experienced a field trip to Hanmer.

We kick-started the day with a highly-competitive round of mini golf followed by a scavenger hunt activity, riding the popular tandem village cruiser bikes. These activities certainly warmed everyone up in the somewhat cooler alpine climate!

Next was a familiarisation visit to the Heritage Hotel. Here Anne, the events and conferences manager, conducted a seminar on the range of career opportunities available in the hotel and tourism industry. She also provided advice on the types of attributes employers seek within this industry. Students were then given a guided tour of the hotel to see the range of facilities available to guests. Anne explained that 60% of the tourist market in Hanmer is made up of domestic tourists, and that the summer and weekends were the busiest times. Our group was then treated to the chef's special of pizza and salad for lunch in the hotel restaurant.

Lastly, it was finally time to relax at Hanmer's premier attraction - the alpine thermal pools and spa resort. Students enjoyed the hydro slide and super bowl rides, along with a  hot pool soak!
