Burnside High School Athletics
Term 1 has been a busy term for Athletics. We had a fantastic school event which was followed by a large team of students competing at the Canterbury Athletics Championships and the South Island Secondary Schools Championships in Timaru.
Burnside High School Athletics Championships
One of our athletes, Ari Keshariya 11SCTH, broke two long standing records in the Triple Jump and Long Jump. Ari broke the Triple Jump with a jump of 13.48m, beating Malcolm Fletcher's record (13.09m) set in 1980 by a whopping 39 centimetres. He broke the Long Jump record by jumping 6.50m, 31 centimetres further than the previous record (6.19m set by Sam Dix in 1982).

South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships
Another top weekend of Athletics at the South Island Athletic Championships in Timaru. The students were super and were 100% supportive of each other and us. They were ably led by our two Year 13 leaders Yvonne Tobeck 13ABJ and Daniel Lough 13SRT.
Burnside High School now has 5 South Island Champions and 2 South Island Records which is amazing.
There were also many other top performances.
