Canterbury Schools Programming Contest Success

Steven Rodkiss —

Johnny Lawrey, Devin Lin and Shane Miro win the Canterbury Schools Programming Contest at the University of Canterbury.

The Canterbury Schools Programming Contest was held at the University of Canterbury on June 24th and hosted around 100 students from 11 schools in the region. 35 teams competed for the trophy over a three and a half hour competition that saw them attempt to answer a series of increasingly difficult questions. Despite stiff competition from an experienced Lincoln High School team, Burnside’s “Pythongineers” managed to come out on top. Congratulations to the three year 13 victors; Johnny Lawrey, Devin Lin and Shane Miro on their well deserved win.

Burnside has a strong tradition of success in this field and the future looks bright with students from year nine all the way through to year 13 competing with four other teams placing in the top 10. Well done to all those other competitors: Xenia Prinz, Saissha Gupta, Tram Dang, Ava Heath Williams, Matthew Thomas, Benjamin Wray, Riki Smillie, Cameron Collings, Cameron Martin, Andrew Sawyer, Adam Lim, Aditya Bansal, Ron Livne, Annabelle Brownsword, Todd Cornford, Alex Dubery and Leon Wu.

If you are interested in taking part in any future programming contests please contact rds@burnside.school.nz. Contests run throughout the year in various forms and top competitors can be selected to compete in the NZ national team.
