Canterbury High School Game Jam

Samuel O'Sullivan —

The Canterbury Game Jam Next recently concluded with resounding success, bringing together 40 talented high school students for an immersive experience in game development.

From August 26th to September 9th, these budding game designers participated in a two-week game jam that showcased their creativity, innovation, and collaborative spirit.

Organized by University of Canterbury's Product Design School, the Canterbury Game Jam Next provided a unique platform for students to explore the world of game development. Under the guidance of two Burnside teachers, Steve Rodkiss and Samuel O'Sullivan, the participants delved into workshops that covered a range of topics.

During the workshops, students received firsthand knowledge on various aspects of game design, from conceptualization and storytelling to coding and graphics.

The keynote by Nadia Thorne from Black Salt Games was a highlight with their Christchurch based Game Design Studio recently selling 1 million copies of their smash hit Dredge.
