International Department

Craig Rosengrave —

2019 has nearly drawn to an end, and it all happened oh so very fast!

As always, the International Department met a large number of people from all across the globe. We enrolled students from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, China, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. This equated to approximately 170 full-time equivalents.

In return, I visited the following countries to: meet parents and prospective students; meet agents and offer training sessions, ensuring good relationships continue into the future. The travel schedule for the year looked like this - Japan, Finland, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, Vietnam, back to Japan and lastly, China.

So it has been an incredibly busy time full of great experiences and great students. Our International students have performed brilliantly both academically and in sport. They have formed some strong bonds with our domestic students and other members of the Burnside High School community.

Many of you will already know that the department's Homestay Manager, Diane George, will be retiring at the start of 2020.  She will ensure that there is a smooth handover for her replacement, Helen Fitzsimmons, so will still be here to welcome the new students in the new year.  Diane started in the International Department in 2005.  She has made some strong relationships with our homestay families and our students who will surely miss her dedication and support.  Members of the International team will miss her greatly too as she has been such a fantastic asset.

Attached to this article you will see photos and videos of some of this year’s activities. Most relate to out of classroom events. You may be able to match the photos and videos with the following descriptions.
