Archery

Burnside High School —

Archery at Burnside High School continually grows in popularity, with lunchtime and after-school sessions provided by outside coach, Maria Tucker.

Maria has many years’ experience both as an archer and as a coach. She has also represented New Zealand twice and was World Field Indoor Champion in her division.

Archery at Burnside High School is run throughout the year during all four terms, four days a week, with over 100 students participating this year. All sessions are based around having fun and making new friends, whilst learning and improving the technique for the sport. Personal progress is made on an individual basis with continual coaching each session. This year has been very challenging and all students have done exceptionally well.

A number of students have also joined a local Archery club held on a Sunday, and have taken their Archery further.

At the annual Sports Awards ceremony in October, James Anderson 13JJN won the Tucker Trophy. Congratulations for all the hard work and progress and thanks also to James helping out with coaching the students as well. James was also a finalist in the “Contribution to Sport” category at the Sports Awards, for students either coaching, co-ordinating or officiating with a sport.
