Burnside High School's Senior Contemporary Band is a group of eight talented musicians showcasing their instrumental skills, specifically in guitar, bass, drums, percussion, keys, and vocals.

Despite not entering any competitions in 2023, our group has had a successful fourth year at playing contemporary music at many events. Some of these performances include Burnside's Contemporary Showcase, playing at the famous A Rolling Stone for Contemporary Cafe, and even performing at the Memorial Hall in Hanmer Springs during Burnside's Contemporary Camp.

Contemporary music allows young people to creatively express their ideas and thoughts in the form of music, sometimes even in unconventional ways. With the brilliant guidance of Mr Oswin, the band has had the opportunity to not only cover many songs, but come up with our own arrangements of them, making our Monday after-school practices all the more fun. We have managed to experiment with the structure and instrumentation of our chosen songs, making our performances more exciting and interesting for both us and the audience - this is what makes us different from Burnside's other music groups. The members of Senior Contemporary Band were able to suggest and try out different ideas, and our opinions were always taken into account. Overall, it has been a blast to perform and work with our talented peers, and we look forward to being a part of this group again in 2024.
