Cross Country at Burnside High School

Term 2 is the term for Cross Country and Road Race. It is good to wait for that cooler Wintry weather.

The season always starts with the highlight of the year which is the Burnside High School Cross Country. The tradition of this event is long remembered after students leave school.

The next event was the Canterbury Road Race at Hagley Park. We had a record number of 48 students competing.

Top performer was Ben Lough 9SOSC who was third Canterbury Year 9 home in the Year 9 Boys Race. Other top ten finishers were Erica Lowe 10NRSS in the Under 16 Girls Race ,Joy Chiles 9WFSL in the Year 9 Girls Race and Oskar Koontz 10WWTA in the Under 16 Boys Race. Our Year 9 girls team Joy Chiles 9WFSL, Miriam Lemon 9SOSC, India Pateman 9SOSC and Lilyann Lim 9SOSC were Third. Our Year 9 Boys team Ben Lough 9SOSC, Hosea Wood 9WPPK, Charlie Brown 9WFSL and Lukas de Wit 9NHLC were Second

Our Under 16 Boys Oskar Koontz 10WWTA, Daniel Fullerton 10WDNK, Shannon Rochester 10NSYA and Olly Upjohn 10NMSG were Third.

We then took a team to the Southern Cross Country in Timaru. This was great preparation for the Canterbury Cross Country and a testing course.

This was followed by the Canterbury Cross Country at Ascot Park. Again a large team competed.

Ben Lough 9SOSC continued his top form with a 4th in the Year 9 Boys. He combined with Hosea Wood 9WPPK, Corey Kennedy 9SOSC and Barnaby Todd for third place in the Year 9 teams event.

Erica Lowe 10NRSS was a strong 7th in the Under 16 girls race.

Then came the National Secondary Schools Cross Country in Palmerston North Week 8 this term. 

The team represented the school with pride on the Saturday and competed in Canterbury teams in the Regional Relays on the Sunday. The Nationals Team list is attached.

Ben Lough 9SOSC was part of the Bronze Medal winning Year 9 Canterbury team.

Cross Country is a great sport and there are more events to come. Thanks to all the students who participated.
