CANTERBURY SECONDARY SCHOOLS GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to our 11 very talented gymnasts who represented Burnside High School at the CSS Championships on Tuesday 15 June, at Olympia Gymnastics Sports in Wigram.

As a group they achieved some outstanding results:

  • Elle Ilkiw 11WMRI – Silver, Level 9 Rhythmic Gymnastics

  • Grace Song 13PZS – Silver, Level 10 Rhythmic Gymnastics
  • Nicole Taylor 13CUC – Bronze, Level 10 Rhythmic Gymnastics
  • Adam Lim 9SOSC – Gold, Level 4 Mens’ Artistic Gymnastics
  • Nicola McLachlan 9NMRC – Bronze, 13-14 Women Individual Trampoline
  • Lexi Ross 13JRD – Silver, 17+ Women Individual Trampoline

The team were also awarded the Top Gymnastic School in Canterbury Award.


SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOLS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The SISS Swimming Championship took place in Timaru, 19 - 20 June, where outstanding performances from all our swimmers saw Burnside High School being awarded the Top Performance by a Co-Ed School Award. The 52 medal haul from our 16 swimmers included 21 Individual Golds, 12 Individual Silvers, and 17 Individual Bronzes, along with 2 Golds and 4 Bronzes in the Relay events. There was also 36 PB's amongst the group.

Congratulations to the BHS Swim team on their amazing results - Kyung-min Cho 12NCGR, Woo-seok Cho 9NHDC, Kate Dawson 9SGLS, Celine Fong 9NHDC, Hamish Giddens 9NGRK, Jack Guillemot 11SCTH, Josiane Hill 12NCGR, Katie Horton 9WMNS, Maddy Horton 11WHGM, Hamish Inwood 9NMRC, Margarita Konstantinova 9SOSC, Cameron Long 9NGRK, Luke McCallum 10NMDA, Stacey Morgan 10WWAJ, Harry Renner 10WLJJ, and Daniel Streletsky 9SOSC.


SOUTH ISLAND POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Powerlifting group competed at the South Island Powerlifting Champion here in Christchurch, 12 - 13 June. The group set new National Records and Penny Yang 11NWTA was awarded 'Best Female Junior Lifter'.

Congratulations to our new NZ record holders:

  • Alfie Trafford 12SHGR - U94kg class - Squat (170kg) & Deadlift (196kg) for a total of 459kg.
  • Grace Wakefield 10STNZ - U48kg class - Deadlift (80kg)
  • Ethan Wijaya 13PZS - U69kg class - Deadlift (163kg)


CANTERBURY SECONDARY SCHOOLS TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to the Burnside High School Girls Team of Aarya Advilkar 12NCHB, Vanessa Wood-Lin 12NPTR and Ellie Zhang 9NHDC who claimed Gold at the CSS Championships here in Christchurch, 13 June.


SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOLS BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHPS

Over the weekend, 12 - 13 June, we had a Boys and Girls Badminton teams compete at the SISS Badminton Championships in Dunedin, where both teams won Silver in their respective events.Congratulation to the two teams:

  • Girls Badminton team - Janvi Puri 12NCHB, Jiya Puri 13BGS, Trista Yeung 13OLK and Karyn Zhang 13TKB.
  • Boys Badminton team - Mahith Balapuwaduge 12NSYA, Tony Chen 12SSHR, Weidi Yan 13MTR and Jacky Zhang 12SWRK.

NZ SECONDARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Burnside High School Cross Country team competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country, 18-19 June in Hawera. The team competed extremely well in some very testing weather conditions. Well done team!
