Tourism trip to Akaroa

Tourism trip to Akaroa

The year 12 and13 tourism students had a great trip to Akaroa on 22nd Feb. It started with a visit to the museum. It was very interesting and we learnt a lot about the history of Akaroa and about the first settlers. The next part of the trip was our favorite. We went for a 2 hour cruise on the Black Cat boat. The weather was amazing and the crew were super friendly. They gave us interesting information about the area and the rock formations of the extinct volcano crater we were in.

The highlight was the school of  Hector dolphins we saw. They followed us and we got some great photos.

After the boat trip we had free time to have our lunch. Most of us wandered around town and supported the local fish n chips shop. We were very aware of the impact of Covid 19 on the tourism industry in Akaroa. Many shops were closed or having huge sales, others were only open certain days of the week. It felt good supporting them.

We were all a bit tired when we got on the bus to head back after a fun filled trip. It was very informative and fits in well with our current assessment on NZ destinations.
