Term 2 witnessed students have fun battling it out with dodgeballs.
Our Sports Leaders organised an intra-school dodgeball tournament for the school. It took place during week 6 of Term 2, with separate matches for the juniors and seniors.
The first ‘rivalry’ match between the year 9 and 10s generated lots of excitement in the Cross Gym. Students came pouring in with the ring of the lunch bell. Hustle and bustle ensued though our leaders had it under control. They explained the rules to rapt attention, and set everyone into action with a whistle.
However, the blasts of an air horn pierced through the lively atmosphere – revealing that the excitement had drowned out the fire alarm. The mood changed and a swift evacuation ensued. Everyone diligently poured out as our leaders made sure everyone got out safely.
Soon everyone returned to the gym, ready to go. There was time to squeeze in one more game .... and it was a good one! The buzz returned just as fast as it had left. Nothing good lasts forever, and so the spirited exchanges eventually gave way to the cheers of triumph from one half of the room… The Year 10s had claimed victory.
The seniors’ game was a more relaxed affair.
The students were just as enthusiastic to get the game going, even if they looked less animated.
There was no need to worry about evacuations this time. They managed to play several games, really fine-tuning their throwing – and of course – dodging skills. For all involved the dodgeball makes their day just that little bit better.
Our wonderful Sports Leaders deserve much thanks for making this possible. They worked hard to give everyone the opportunity to get together and properly enjoy student life. Without all the support from our students, Burnside would not be the great place it is today.
Who are the Sports Leaders?
Burnside’s Sports Leaders are our team of Year 13 students who organise and help out with sporting events. This ranges from running lunchtime games, to making sure bigger events such as Athletics Day run smoothly.
Sports Leader Sam Rankin puts it best:
“As sports leaders, we love to organise fun sports related events for the whole school to give everyone a chance to get involved in school events and have fun doing so!”
