Burnside High School — Nov 26, 2023

Basketball continues to prove one of the most popular sports at Burnside High School.

It was a busy Basketball season with one U20, two U17 and three U15 boys teams entered in the Canterbury Basketball Association Saturday competition, a Senior Boys team in the Thomson Trophy, a Senior Girls team in the Whelan Trophy and nine teams in the Friday night schools' (Social) competition.

Congratulations to the following students on their achievements this season:

As a part of the New Zealand Secondary School Winter Tournament Week, the U15 Black, Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams all attended the South Island Secondary School tournaments.  Both the Boys teams played in Dunedin and the Girls travelled to Timaru.  The U15 Boys team placed 7th in the A Grade, and in a weird twist of fate and the way the draw was structured only played one school from outside of Christchurch and ended up playing some schools twice.  The Senior Girls team placed 6th at the Southern Cup. The Senior Boys team, in a rebuild year and carrying a number of injuries, placed a well earnt 14th at the Zone 4 AA Premierships.

A big thank you to all the coaches, managers and supporters for all their hard work throughout the season.

U15 Black - Kai Shields (Coach), and Lesley McLachlan (Manager)
U15 Green - Florence Zepeda (Coach) and Aliyah Prendergast (Assistant Coach)
