Burnside Environment Group 2018

Jon Land —

The Burnside Environment Group has again attracted wide participation from students across all year levels.

We are delighted to welcome our new Year 9 members and it is lovely to see old faces from last year’s team. It is hard to believe that this is our seventh year of work on the Hewlings Stream site but as can be seen in the photo the results have been spectacular. What was once a grass bank has been transformed in our own little forest. Work this year will involve creating a track to give better access, continued planting and the removal of weeds that also thrive in amongst the native plantings. Links have been forged with Mr Cattell’s new Environmental Science class and it is hoped that area will provide a valuable resource for their scientific endeavours. Ruby Glasson and E Wen Wong have also initiated the Burnside Sustainability Council and we look to expand the group's work to include a of range projects from energy saving to waste and litter reduction. The group meets on the upper fields each Wednesday after school and we are always delighted to welcome new members.
