Zonta Sports Awards

Mrs T Taylor —

The Zonta Sports Awards and Dinner was held on Thursday 25 October, at the Hornby Working Men’s Club.

Most of our finalists were in attendance with their parents, along with Mr Holstein, Mr McBrearty (TIC Cycling) and myself. It was a fantastic evening and for 11 of our students to be finalists is huge in itself - with a massive amount of students from 24 different schools in the Canterbury region selected as finalists, across 45 sports.

This year, 13 nominations were made, and out of this – 11 students were successful in being named Finalists in their particular category:

Contribution to Sports Administration (Boys) – Thomas Bainbridge (Water Polo) and Fergus Vickers (Rowing)

Contribution to Sports Administration (Girls) – Charlotte James (Fencing)

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport (Boys) – Hiroki Miya (Golf) and Alexander Zhou (Table Tennis)

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport (Girls) – Sami Donnelly (Track & Road Cycling) and Juliana Hung (Golf)

Most Outstanding Team (Boys) – Boys Table Tennis Team (Alexander Zhou, Samuel Li, Sang-Yong Park and Zak McKellar)

Best All-Rounder (Boys) – Thomas James (Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Cycling, Duathlon, Golf, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Road Race, Snowboarding, Swimming, Tennis and Triathlon)
