A great season, with two golds, one silver and huge development. Bring on 2021!
Burnside Volleyball can definitely say they made the most of 2020 despite the compromises they had to deal with. In early February three duos travelled to Tauranga to compete in the secondary schools' Beach Volleyball nationals. Rosa Vesty and Taylah Holdem went on to win Gold in the Year 11 Girls Division which shows their promise for the years to come.
When the indoor season began the senior girls' A & B teams competed in the Monday night competition. Our first tournament was the Mainland Championships. Unfortunately the Girls A team lost in the final so earned silver medals. The indoor Secondary Schools' National Championships were cancelled due to COVID-19 and Canterbury Champs was postponed to Labour weekend.
We had to adjust and make new goals for the year and after the winter we were all rearing to get back and train for Canterbury Champs. Both the A & B girls were in Division 1 and after a long five-set final, the Senior A Girls won the Canterbury Championships against St Andrews College. This was an amazing way to celebrate our season and thank the Year 13's in the team.
A big thank you to all supporters, parents and coaches that made our 2020 season one to remember. We wouldn't have been able to achieve what we did without your support.
