A large team of 23 athletes competed at the National Secondary Schools Championships in Wellington from 06-08 December.
A Gold medal was won in the Senior Girls Pole Vault to Eliza Meekings with a new personal best height of 3.35m. This was achieved in pouring rain and horrendous wind. Bella Pickering won the Silver medal in the same event. Our youngest competitor, Year 9 Olivia Watt won the Silver medal in the Junior Pole Vault. PE Teacher, Mr Bill Boyd, coaches all these young women along with a number of other highly ranked Canterbury Pole Vaulters. Many others in the team achieved Top 8 finishes and personal bests. The Junior Boys 4 x 400 team of Ethan Bone, Liam Hill, Aryan Rai and Theo Walker narrowly missed a medal finishing a close 4th, but gave it their all. Brigit Kwell was fifth in the Senior Girls Hammer Throw with a 7m personal best of over 42m. The Road Races were all cancelled because of the extreme weather conditions which was a disappointment for many of the athletes. All the team can be very proud of their achievements at this national event.
