Two teams of nine talented climbers from Burnside High School competed in September in the South Island Secondary Schools Sport Climbing Championships.
Our two teams climbed extremely well, finishing just outside the Top 3 in the Mixed Teams competition. The competition was broken up into 22 rounds of limited time. Each team completed as many climbs as they could on each rope (round) in 12 minutes scoring points for each climb, and they were only able to score further points in a round if they attempted a different climb each time. Each team member had to score a point before other team members could climb again. Sounds intense? It was! But also very enjoyable if the excitement and enthusiasm was anything to go by.
