The International Department has moved away from paper-based proficiency testing with the preferred online, pre-departure format using the well-known platform of Duolingo.

The Burnside High School November Programme is a wonderful opportunity for international students to experience the very best of what our school and region has to offer. Over a period of three weeks, all international students not studying for NCEA exams, will experience an assortment of exciting activities. One week will involve a trip away travelling around the top of the South Island in the Nelson area. The two remaining weeks will include activities in and around Christchurch.

Students in years 9-12 are required to wear a school uniform. Year 13s do not wear uniform. They are allowed to wear casual clothing.

We have a surf club at school. Involved students travel to Sumner Beach once a week during Terms 1&4. Students pay for board hire and wetsuit if they do not own their own (6 sessions $200). We also offer two days of surf instruction as part of our November Programme (Non NCEA End of Year Alternative Programme). This programme comes at no cost to the student
