Financial support and advice for businesses

There is financial support available to help businesses cover the costs of self isolation, as well as advice on preparation and planning for an Omicron outbreak and a free Covid-19 Business Helpline.

The Leave Support Scheme supports employers and self-employed people to pay those who cannot work while in home isolation. This is paid at $600 per week for full-time workers, and $359 per week for part-time workers. Read about the criteria here.

The Short-Term Absence Payment is available for employers and self-employed people to help pay their employees who cannot work from home while they wait for a COVID-19 test result. This is a one-off payment of $359. Find out more here.

MBIE provides detailed guidance about the ways to manage the impact of Covid-19 in your business, including reducing the risk of transmission, creating a plan and looking after mental health. You can find this here.

All New Zealand businesses, including sole traders, can call the free Covid-19 Business Helpline for support and advice. The Helpline can support you to access free or subsidised expert help, e.g. from a business mentor. Employers can also get specific advice on people challenges, including staffing changes, employee wellbeing and health and safety obligations. The Helpline number for South Island businesses is 0800 505 096.
