Budget Planning and Process

It's the time of year when we need to start thinking about budget planning again...

While the words "budget planning" may induce fear in some of us, it shouldn't have to be a scary time! It's a good idea to start the process early and not leave it to the last minute, too.

The Budgeting Process - A Suggested Scheme

1. Obviously, every school will have a different timeline for its budgeting cycle and a different allocation of responsibilities. In many cases, the finance sub-committee may be involved in place of the board, except for final approval. In other cases, the sub-committee may assist with preparing final draft budgets.

2. The first phase, that of review, is particularly important if the cycle of historical budgeting is to be broken. It is important to take into account any money already committed, such as for equipment or textbooks ordered but not yet received.

We've included a short video (below) to help get you acquainted with the process and understand what needs to be done.

However, if you're still not quite sure how your budget planning needs to work, feel free to get in contact with CES and we'll be glad to help.

We're able to help with all sorts of budgeting and accounting options for schools, so all you need to do is ask!
