Service Desks

Graeme Barber —

A growing proportion of Justices of the Peace work in Christchurch is now undertaken at Service Desks.

Service desks continue to grow in popularity by the public who appreciate Justices’ of the Peace working in a neutral, warm, safe Library environment. Gwen Mitchell is the overall coordinator but each of the ten City or District Council Libraries where our JP service desks are located also have their own coordinator rostering a JP on duty every Tuesday throughout the year. We have ninety four JPs who willingly give their time to work on our service desks and their work is very much appreciated by the Canterbury JP Council.

The Librarians at the Libraries appreciate the services offered at the JP desk seeing it as a valuable, well utilized , popular community service they can offer from their premises. The number of clients using the JP service desks are increasing, with the free JP services appreciated by everyone . Often the Libraries also have a list of JPs’ available outside of the service desk hours and will pass on this information. Some of the libraries also have cafes operating within the premises and the Kaiapoi library has a wonderful little museum at the rear. The libraries are very popular locations.

Service desks are available at the following locations:
