New Zealand Police Appointment Panel

Diane Woodward —

A personal story

Recently I was invited to be part of a three person panel to appoint a third officer for the Darfield Police Station. The other two were two police personnel. I was there because of my knowledge of this end of the Selwyn Electorate, my community involvement (Justice of the Peace and Selwyn Emergency Support team).I found it quite daunting to begin with but Richard and Rachel made me feel very comfortable and valued. There were six applicants (only one female) of varying years of experience within the Police Force and age. After each candidate, we discussed our thoughts on how they interviewed .Once all six had been through a full-on face to face session, we then placed each one in order of our preference. and.....all three of us came up with the same candidate whom we decided would be the best fit for this area. I was very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this extremely important appointment. The young officer whom we chose will be an asset to the Darfield team and the community.
