Bob Macgregor retires from the Bench
Wednesday 23 February 2017 marked a historic day for the Judicial Justices. This was Bob Macgregor's last day on the bench. Bob has served for 17 years as a valued member of the Judicial Panel.
A function to honour Bob and the hours of voluntary work he has done was held at the District Court on the 1st March. It was wonderful to have Bob's family, including his daughter from Invercargill, his son and wife attend. There were also many court staff, other Judicial Panel members and members of the Bail Bond team in attendance.
Bob entertained the gathering with some of his stories and his passion for the work he has done was evident. One particular incident Bob recalled was when he had a large crowd gathered in the court and a visitors cell phone went off. Bob told the person, in no uncertain terms, that this wasn't permitted and instructed the person to take the phone outside. Only moments later there was another cell phone ring. After a couple of seconds Bob realised that the noise was coming from his own pocket. While he laughs about this now, at the time it was very embarrassing.
Bob has, and continues to be, an inspiration and huge source of knowledge to the Judicial Panel members. He has just the right balance of doing the right thing and being compassionate - all with a very friendly attitude. There have been people who tried his patience at times, and they know only too well that Bob is not to be messed with.
We will not be letting Bob go completely as he will be called upon to assist with on-going training for the Panel members. In the meantime we wish Bob all the very best for his retirement and hope he manages to get some more time on the golf course and doing other things that give him pleasure.
Thank you Bob, for your expertise, professionalism and time you have given to the Judicial Panel.
